Jessie Smith – Keeping busy!! Getting Results!

It’s been a REALLY busy month for us!! It started with a dressage competition down at Moonta, where we competed in Preliminary dressage and presented our first freestyle to music. We didn’t score as well as we would have liked in the prelim, but we managed to snag second in the freestyle.

The following weekend was dressage at McLaren Flat. The weather was less than desirable windy and raining! Stormy put this aside for a beautiful warm up and our first test was quite nice considering everything! He struggled with his canter, but his transitions were stunning and his bend was super! Our second test and the rain got heavier! Stormy was understandably distracted, but listened to me and we completed quite a clean test. We placed 3rd in the juniors for the 1.1, with respectable scores in an overall draw of 14. Much to our surprise we won the juniors in our 1.2, with very respectable scores in an overall draw of 11.

The following weekend we were honored to ride as a demonstration at Dressage SA’s Coaching Seminar today. Stormy and I had a crack at our first FEI 1a and 1b individual championship para tests. Stormy really tried his heart out for me, and we managed to score all 6.5 and 7’s!!!!  We had a week off from competing and had some fun down at Pony Club. Stormy really enjoyed getting out and just have fun with his friends instead of competing.

The following week and we were competing again, this time at Globe Derby for a hack show. Stormy gave some really nice workouts, with the judge even commenting on his elevation and extensions in trot!! In the free workout, we managed to get a really nice walk to canter, we hadn’t planned it, but it worked in our favor! 🙂 Once again my special little man worked his magic and we came home with:
-2nd Open Gelding
-1st Open Workout
-1st Open rider U/18
Reserve Champion Open Rider
CHAMPION RIDDEN STANDARDBRED!!

We’ve since had a couple of weeks off from competing, but we’ll be back at it in 2 weeks! During the break we’ve trained more, adding emphasis on our leg yields and extensions as we’ve decided to go up a grade to novice! We plan to compete our first novice 2.2 on the 17th of July. My beautiful little man will give me his all I’m sure, we’re excited to see where we can go! 🙂
